The worst thing that can happen is to not have enough money to buy more 
BTC when it dumps to the green zone (around 19k or less).
History doesn't change, the future doesn't change either. The path to both timestreams does.
It WILL dump next year, but Bitcoin WILL surpass half a mill. Look at related post and first post in 2019 for confirmation.
