The 20 Trading Lessons from Top Traders I have read a lot of trading books since the time I started trading my own account and the one book that really helps me out and “I wish I’ve read this one first” – is Market Wizards Interview with Top Traders by Jack D. Schwager.
Here’s the list that struck me most that I’d like to share:
“Early trading failure is a sign that you are doing something wrong; it is not necessarily a good predictor of ultimate potential failure or success.” – Michael Marcus
“If you don’t stay with your winners, you are not going to be able to pay for the losers.” – Michael Marcus
“Liquidating positions is the way to achieve mental clarity when one is losing money and confused regarding market decisions.” – Michael Marcus
“Being a successful trader also takes courage: the courage to try, the courage to fail, the courage to succeed, and the courage to keep going when the going keeps tough.” – Michael Marcus
“Place your stops at a point that, if reached, will reasonably indicate that the trade is wrong, not at a point determined primarily by the maximum dollar amount you are willing to lose per contract. If the meaningful stop point implies an uncomfortably large loss per contract, trade a smaller number of contracts.” – Bruce Kovner
“The times when you least want to think about trading – the losing periods – are precisely the times when you need to focus most on trading.” – Richard Dennis
“Everybody gets what they want out of the market.” – Ed Seykota
“It is a happy circumstance that when nature gives us true burning desires, it also gives us the means to satisfy them.” – Ed Seykota
“Frankly, I don’t see markets; I see risks, rewards and money.” – Larry HIte
“ I have two basic rules about winning in trading as well as in life: 1. If you don’t bet, you can’t win. 2. If you lose all your chips, you can’t bet” – Larry Hite
“In my judgment, all traders are seekers of truth.” – Michael Steinhardt
“The more disciplined you can get, the better you are going to do in the market. The more you listen to tips and rumors, the more money you’re likely to lose.” – David Ryan
“When the market gets good news and goes down, it means the market is very weak; when it gets bad news and goes up, it means the market is healthy.” – Marty Schwartz
“Learn to take losses. The most important thing in making money is not letting your losses get out of hand. Also, don’t increase your position size until you have doubled or tripled your capital. Most people make the mistake of increasing their bets as soon as they start making money. That is a quick way to get wiped out.” – Marty Schwartz
“The best traders are the most humble.” – Mark Weinstein
“You have to learn how to lose; it is more important than learning how to win.” – Mark Weinstein
“Most traders who fail have large egos and can’t admit that they are wrong. Even those who are willing to admit that they are wrong early in their career can’t admit it later on. Also, some traders fail because they are too worried about losing.” – Brian Gelber
“You are never really confident in this business, because you can always be wiped out pretty quickly. The way I trade is: Live by the sword, die by the sword. There is always the potential that I could get caught with the big position in a fluke move with the market going the limit against me. On the other hand, there is no doubt in my mind that I could walk into any market in the world and make money.” – Tom Baldwin
“Clear thinking, ability to stay focused, and extreme discipline. Discipline is number one: Take a theory and stick with it. But you have to be open-minded enough to switch tracks if you feel that your theory has been proven wrong. You have to be able to say, my method worked for this type of market, but we are not in that type of market anymore.” – Tony Saliba
“ How do you judge success? I don’t know. All I know is that all the money in the world isn’t the answer.” Tony Saliba
There’s still a lot of golden information that I want to write in here – for ourselves and for everyday reading so as to keep us aligned with our trading goal, but I prefer to encourage you to read the book.

Identifying Key Support and Resistance Levels: Beginner’s GuideWelcome to the market’s game of zig-zag. On the one side, we’ve got the bulls pulling prices up (doing the zigging), and on the other, the bears dragging them down (doing the zagging). Somewhere in there lies a delicate balance—where prices pause, reverse, or break through. These are support and resistance levels, and if you want to play in the big league and run shoulders with big sho(r)ts, you need to know how to spot them. Let’s dive in.
Support and Resistance: The Basics
Imagine the market as a ping-pong ball bouncing between two invisible walls. These invisible walls are called support and resistance . The floor is support—where buyers step in to catch the fall. The ceiling? That’s resistance, where sellers say, “Not so fast,” and push the price back down. Your job? Figure out where these walls are and use them to your advantage.
Support is the price level where a downtrend could pause due to strong enough demand, or buying momentum. Think of it as a safety net—a level where the price stops its freefall, cushioned by determined buyers.
Resistance is the opposite. It’s the price level where an uptrend might stall because sellers step in, seeing the price as overbought. It’s the market’s ceiling, and breaking through it can be tough.
How to Spot Support and Resistance
Here’s the good news: spotting these levels is easier than you think. Start by zooming out on your chart and identifying where price reversals have occurred. Where has the market consistently bounced up from? That’s your support. Where has it been smacked down? That’s your resistance.
That’s also when everyone becomes a chartist and technical analyst—draw horizontal lines at these levels. And boom, you’ve just identified key support and resistance zones. But there’s more to it than just connecting the dots.
Horizontal Levels: The Classics
The classic way to identify support and resistance is to look for horizontal levels. These are price levels where the market has historically reversed multiple times. If the price has bounced off $50 three times, you’ve got yourself a solid support level. Likewise, if $75 has been a brick wall for the price, it’s a clear resistance level.
Trendlines: The Dynamic Duo
Horizontal lines are great, but what if the market’s trending? That’s where trendlines come in. Draw a line connecting the higher lows in an uptrend or the lower highs in a downtrend. These lines can act as moving support or resistance levels. They’re not just lines—they’re the market’s roadmap. Want to get things even more heated up? Look for channels by identifying the higher lows in the uptrend coupled with the higher highs. Apply the same but in reverse for downtrending markets—lower highs and lower lows is what makes up a channel.
The Role of Volume
Here’s where it gets a little spicy. You have to add volume in the mix. When you see a support or resistance level holding up with high volume, it’s like getting a thumbs-up from the market. If the price breaks through a level with high volume, it’s more likely to keep moving in that direction. Low volume? Don’t get too excited—it could be a fake-out.
Psychological Levels: The Round Numbers Game
Ever noticed how prices tend to stall at round numbers? That’s no accident. Humans love round numbers and the market is no different. Levels like $100, $1,000, or even $100,000 (did someone say Bitcoin BTC/USD ?) often act as psychological support or resistance. It’s not science—it’s market psychology.
How to Trade Support and Resistance
Now that you know where the walls are, or inflection points, let’s talk strategy. Trading support and resistance isn’t about guessing where the market will go—it’s about stacking the odds in your favor.
Buying at Support (DYOR, tho) : When the price pulls back to a support level, it’s a prime buying opportunity. Just remember, you’re not the only one watching this level—fellow retail traders, professional money spinners and lots of algorithms are trained to chase trends. Use additional confirmation, like a bunch of indicators stacked together , before you pull the trigger.
Selling at Resistance (DYOR, tho) : If the price rallies to a known resistance level, it’s time to think about selling. Again, wait for some confirmation—a rejection, bearish pattern, or a volume spike—to avoid getting caught in a breakout.
Breakout Trades (DYOR, tho) : If a price breaks through support or resistance with conviction (read: strong volume), it often leads to significant moves. You can trade these breakouts, but be cautious of false breakouts. Nobody likes getting trapped.
Final Thoughts
Support and resistance levels are like the market’s heartbeat. They reveal where the big players are making their moves and where the action is likely to heat up. Whether you’re looking to jump in or bail out, these levels are your go-to guide. So, the next time you’re analyzing a chart, remember—those lines aren’t just random. They’re the market’s battle lines, and now, you’ve got the intel to trade them.
Let’s wrap this up with some inspiration from legendary trend follower Paul Tudor Jones:
“I believe the very best money is made at the market turns. Everyone says you get killed trying to pick tops and bottoms and you make all your money by playing the trend in the middle. Well for twelve years I have been missing the meat in the middle but I have made a lot of money at tops and bottoms.”

SPY Fibonacci Price Theory And BreakOut BarsThis instructional video teaches you the basics of Fibonacci Price Theory in conjunction with Breakout Bars and how price is the ultimate indicator.
Throughout this video, I try to provide instruction on key elements related to the Fibonacci Price Theory (Unique & Standout Highs/Lows). Additionally, I've also included Breakout Bars and Fibonacci Price Retracement concepts.
What I really hope you learn from this video is to see price as the true ultimate indicator for your trading decisions. Using technical analysis techniques is fine, but use price as the key element when trying to confirm or reject your trading ideas.
I hope this helps you understand that price, action, and reaction through trends, peaks, and troughs are the most important components of the chart. Everything else is peripheral.
📈Mastering Stock Selection:A Journey to Long-Term Wealth💰Part1Interested in selecting high-quality stocks and growing your wealth through long-term investing? Today, I'll guide you through effective stock selection methods, including the top-bottom and bottom-top approaches. Remember, as Warren Buffett famously said, "The stock market is designed to transfer money from the active to the patient." 💼📈
Let's start with the top-bottom approach. First, you choose an economy, such as Indian, US, or UK. Next, select a sector within that economy, like Financial Services, IT, or Pharma. From there, narrow down to an industry within the sector, such as AI, Clean-technology, or Hardware. Finally, choose a company within the industry. Don't worry if it seems complex – I'll provide examples and guidance throughout. 💡🔍
Conversely, the bottom-top approach flips this order. We start by selecting a company, then move up to its industry, sector, and finally, the economy. 💼🔄
Let's put theory into practice with the top-bottom approach: (a random example)
1. Choose India as the economy.
2.Select the IT sector for its promising future.
3. Opt for AI as the industry due to its potential.
4. Select Infosys as a company.
Now, it's your turn! Share examples of top-bottom or bottom-top approaches in the comments for practice. 💬💡
In the upcoming discussions, we'll delve into the fundamentals of sector, industry, and company analysis. Don't worry—I'll explain everything from market cap and cash flow to return on equity (ROE). 📊✨
Target of likes (boosts): 25+ (if we achieve our target than I will make Part 2) 🎯🚀

Anatomy of a Top – Seven Questions for Selling Discipline Anatomy of a Top – Seven Questions for Selling Discipline: Louise Yamada
The equity market may be presenting a somewhat ambiguous and / or rotating profile over past months of sharp rallies and retreats, but preservation of capital comes directly from action we take with regard to the individual stocks (and / or derivatives) that we hold in our portfolio. There is ample warning to take preservation of capital actions before / if a major market decline might take place, remembering that the trend is our friend; that a stock can’t go down until it stops going up; and that most of the time (with the exception of inverted “V” tops) a period of distribution precedes a decline.
My mentor, Alan Shaw, realizing that a good deal of analytical frustration materializes simply by the lack of logical reasoning, set forth the “Seven Questions” discipline; easy rules that tend to occur more or less in the offered sequence.
First of all, when analyzing a stock or a market index for a potential reversal of trend, a simple but most important question must be asked:
1) Does the stock / index have a move of substance to reverse? A major reversal formation certainly would not be looked for in a stock that has only moved from 20 to 26, but if a move from 20 to 60 or to 200 or more has been experienced, any reversal in trend could become major.
(Clearly, following gains in excess of 100% plus from the March 2009 lows (even since 2016), many stocks had rising moves of substance in place!)
If the first question is answered “Yes,” we then ask:
2) Has the stock / index fulfilled readable price objectives? Technical analysis does generally afford the opportunity to calculate price objectives based on the size of the accumulation and / or consolidation pattern preceding the advance.
(The indexes and multiple stocks into the 2021 high achieved readable targets from the 2009 (or 2016) basing configurations and exceeded them generously.)
If the answer to question 2 is “Yes,” then we move to:
3) Has the stock / index violated its uptrend? The occurrence of a trend violation could represent the technical forerunner, or an early warning, of a reversal in the major direction of the stock’s price movement.
(A growing number of stocks have breached their initial uptrends.)
If “Yes,” question 4 then asks:
4) Are there signs of distribution evident? Evidence of distribution can take on many forms. Charts display certain patterns (a double top, “head-and-shoulders,” a descending triangle, or even a horizontal pattern, as examples) and pivot off the technical assumption that a “period of distribution” precedes declines; but there can also occasionally be sudden reversals from a new high.
(A number of stocks portrayed / are portraying patterns of distribution; and as some rallies approach 2021 price peaks, one may need to revisit Q 1 and Q 2 in evaluating the potential for double tops.)
If “Yes,” then:
5) If distribution is evident, is it significant enough to imply that more than a minor movement in price could be in the offing? The greater the distribution pattern, the greater the anticipated decline.
If one has answered the first five questions in an affirmative manner “Yes,” then positions should be lightened (or protected) as the affirmative answers accumulate. Question 6 asks:
6) Has the stock violated a readable support level? A “Yes” answer here would represent a stop-loss discipline point, further protecting capital, and takes us to the last question, which one should not reach with a fully invested position:
7) Has the stock initiated a downward trend? A “Yes” answer to this should be arrived at with positions closed (or fully protected), or use rallies to complete such action.
There is a floater question which can be inserted in between any of the above seven: “Is there any evidence of unusual price and / or volume action?” Sharp upward or downward runs following a major move can often be an indication of a “climactic” phase of market action.
Note: We realize that these evaluations are made more difficult and frustrating in today’s proliferation of ETFs, of hedge fund influence, electronic trading, shorting pressures without the uptick rule and intra-day algorithmic programs. But the 7 Qs apply equally to ETFs.
One aspect of the above comes in the form of “false breakouts” (or false breakdowns), in which a breakout occurs without upward (or downward) follow-through. There is often evidence of these events in the progress of stocks trends. Therefore, monitoring support levels as prices may fail in their apparent breakouts becomes an important preservation of capital discipline.
For an exercise in these questions, please reference the chart below as an educational example.

Stay cautious of a PEAK/TOP in the markets today. My SPY Cycle Patterns suggest the markets will establish a PEAK/TOP today - then trend downward.
I created this video to help my followers stay aware of the short-term nature of price in a reactionary price trend - like today.
If you are chasing this rally, stay very cautious of risks related to my SPY cycle patterns. Overall, I expect the markets to peak, stall, then trend downward over the next 48 hours.
Take quick trades with targeted profit targets. This is not a friendly market uptrend in my opinion.
I believe the $408 level is a likely downside price target for the SPY by Thursday.

📢 The Broadening FormationA technical chart pattern recognized by analysts, known as a broadening formation or Megaphone Pattern, is characterized by expanding price fluctuation. It is represented by two lines, one ascending and one descending, that diverge from each other. This pattern typically appears after a significant increase or decrease in security prices and is denoted by a sequence of higher and lower turning points. Normally this pattern is visible when the market is at its top or bottom. The greater the time frame is better the pattern will work.
🔹How to identify
Generally, the Broadening Formation consists of 5 different swings. But the swing has to have a minimum of two higher highs and two lower lows. A trend line is drawn by connecting point 1 and point 3 while points 2 and 4 are also joined together to draw a line.
These two lines create a shape that looks like a megaphone or inverted symmetric triangle. These swings’ highs and lows have to close above or below its pivot line and therefore they will create swing high as pivot high (R1, R2, and R3) and swing lows as pivot lows (S1, S2, and S3).
A breakout occurs when the line does not respect its support or resistance line and closes outside the shape after making the 5th swing.
🔹Volume
Volume plays an important role when it comes to the recognition of this pattern.
In the Broadening Top, volume usually peaks along with prices.
An increase in the volume, on the day of the pattern confirmation, is a strong indicator.
🔹Failures
This pattern also can be traded when it fails but is necessary to identify the failure perfectly.
A failure can be spotted when it fails to break the trend line (upper or lower as the case may be) after completing the 5th swing.
Suppose in a bull market condition, this pattern is formed and if it fails to break the upper trend line, traders go short when the price goes below 3rd swing high (R2).
Similar is the scenario, when the market is in a bear phase and it fails to break the lower trend line (S2), traders take a long position when the price closes above the 3rd swing high.

Danger of TradingHello trader!
Welcome back to another episode with Analyst Aadil1000x.
Today I am here to show you some stories that many traders don't know that can also happen to them and many traders can also relate these stories with them. You will only see success stories on the internet and that's only 1% truth.
Have you not seen how much tough the market is? If you are not working very hard then there is no way to win because this is the toughest business in the whole world.
A person can understand better if the situation is told in a story that's why to make you understand I am sharing some stories.
First story.
There was a guy who was living in my city. He started forex trading and he got some lucky shots and made a small amount of money but he didn't know that this happens to all new traders, LOL. Once he made money he thought making money is as easy as opening an account but he lost 50,000 USD and not only that what he did later will scare you. He used all of his father's retirement fund and sold the house and lost everything in forex. He lost almost 600,000 USD.
To recover the amount he started to put more money. He wanted a fight with the market. From me, you will always listen that we will move with the market. Normally people say kill the market or will beat the market. You can't do that. The mindset of moving with the market is the only option to win.
Second Story
There was a guy who started trading and with little experience, he started to trade on borrowed money and he lost almost 60K and now he has a debt that he can't even pay.
Never trade from borrowed money if you have little experience or your strategy is not perfect. The chances of your winning are -100%.
Third story
It's a story of a girl living in another country whose monthly salary was 2500 pounds. She was trading different options and she lost 200,000 pounds in a year. Again whose money was that? It was her parent's money and she used that without telling them.
She was trading with untested methods. When she figured out something new she start to put money into a new method and she kept changing methods and losing all the time.
There are many stories that I hear every week with losses with more than they have earned in their life. So don't do these types of mistakes. If you are a new trader then trade only 20$ and grow it to 100$ and make notes of the strategy. If you make it possible then you can be a successful trader.
REASON BEHIND YOUR LOSS
One main reason behind the loss is WRONG knowledge on the internet. Even if you search for the most popular post, it has 5000+ like and it has more than a dozen images and he is guiding how to trade. The surprising thing is out of 12 images all 12 images are wrong and it's the most popular post. How is that possible that 100% of the guidance is wrong? Even he can give one correct direction by mistake but he failed to give one direction correct even by mistake. That's how tough the market is. Even so-called experts don't know what they are doing.
The reason behind all wrong is that he learned it online and taught the fake knowledge to many traders and it keeps continuing..
Imagine millions of traders losing without knowing their mistakes. When they lose they go back to the same information read it carefully and try to do the same thing in the best way possible and they still lose because they are using never working methods.
You have to work very very hard to move with the market. I worked really hard and formed some working methods and I know that those who don't know exactly what's happening in the market have little chance of survival.
Don't forget to give some boost and follow to stay connected.
Indicator introduction: Custom Volume - Periodic Peaks & TroughsThis script is a custom volume indicator with additional features.
But why is this useful?
The minimum and maximum volumes, in different time periods, are displayed by labels below the bars. I call them "Peaks" and "Troughs"(Hover your mouse cursor over the labels to see more details)
These parameters are widely used in technical analysis .
If traders want to confirm a reversal on a level of support–or floor–they look for high buying volume . Conversely, if traders are looking to confirm a break in the level of support, they look for low volume from buyers.
If traders want to confirm a reversal on a level of resistance–or ceiling– they look for high selling volume . Conversely, if traders are looking to confirm a break in the level of resistance, they look for high volume from buyers.
How to use alerts
Note that by creating an alert, an instance of the indicator, with all your settings, will be activated on the site's server and alerts will be triggered by it.
After that, changing the indicator settings on the chart will no longer affect the alert.
Open the settings window and select the alert conditions as you wish
Click the Create Alert button (or press the A key while holding down the ALT key)
In the Condition section, select the name of the indicator.
Make the rest of the settings as you wish.
Finally, click on the Create button.
It's finished. After a few moments, your alert will be added to the Alerts menu.
Five types of major support and resistance levelsWant to buy the bottom and sell the top? Want to predict major turning points in a security's price? Want to avoid buying too early or selling too late? Then you need to understand support and resistance levels!
I know a lot of people who mostly trade breakouts. That can be a very successful strategy, and I've used it myself to good effect. But if you buy a breakout after it happens, you pay a "breakout premium"-- especially if you're buying option calls or puts. You'll get a much better price on options if you buy them *before* a breakout or *before* a major change in momentum. How do you do that? Know your support and resistance levels!
Once you know how to identify the different types of support and resistance, you can look to see where several different types of support or resistance coincide . Those will be key price points at which different types of investors who rely on different types of indicators will all buy or sell at the same time.
Pattern Cheatsheet: Identfying a Broadening Top PatternThe Broadening Top pattern appears when price makes a straight upwards run (similar to the "Flagpole" of a Bull Flag Pattern, then swings between two expanding broadening trendlines with at least 5 touches.
It is a neutral pattern which means it can break out in either direction, on the bottom right examples i have explained how the pattern is identified, measured and traded for both Bullish & Bearish breakouts.
The idea is to get a entry early by identifying the pattern, (point A) which allows for a better Risk:Reward ratio and closer stop loss. The second potential entry is at point B, which is considered a Bullish or Bearish retest ( Support/Resistance flip it is also known as), but this area is a bit risker and has less "room to move".
The pattern can give a a sign that the price may have a higher chance in heading in a certain direction, and we can measure the height of the straight run upwards, aswell as the height of the two LARGEST SWINGS within the pattern to get two possible price targets ; one conservative and one less so.
The Broadening Top appears frequently on Bitcoin & Ethereum and has one of the better success rates out of all the different Broadening Patterns and is one of the easiest to trade & identify because often it works similar to a Bull Flag pattern.
If you found this idea informative, Dont forget to show your support by liking & commenting thank you traders!
USDCAD : Why trade currency as a CFD?CFDs are financial contracts between a broker and trader that pays for the difference in the settlement price between when you open and close a trade.
If a trader expects the currency to move higher, they will enter a long position with a specific lot size. Conversely, if the trader expects the currency to move lower, they will enter a short position, expecting to profit from it.
The benefit of CFDs is that there is no need to own the physical asset. Instead, traders speculate in the difference between opening and closing trade prices. While these contracts can be used to speculate on the foreign exchange markets, the same concept applies to other assets such as commodities, oil and indices.
In Forex trading, CFDs allow us to buy or sell the currencies without actually owning the physical asset. For example, let’s say you live in Canada and, through your analysis, you expect CAD to depreciate and USD to appreciate. What could you do to hedge against the CAD dollar that you have on hand? Well, you can buy or “go long’ on USD/CAD and profit from the movement in prices. By buying or entering a long position on USD/CAD, you are essentially buying the USD and selling CAD.
SO, WHAT IF YOU DECIDED TO TRADE WITHOUT THE USE OF CFDS?
This would mean going down to your local currency dealer and exchanging your physical Canadian dollars for US dollars, leaving you holding on to stacks of US dollars. When the value of the US dollar moves higher, you would once again head back to the currency dealer to exchange them into CAD. Now that the USD is stronger, you can exchange them for more CAD dollars than the initial amount you invested, thereby realising a profit.
SOUNDS LIKE A HASSLE?
It is. That’s why CFDs are so popular for forex trading: it removes the need to hold those stacks of physical cash, making trading much more convenient.
A peek into the pastMATICBTC neatly moved in a Fibonacci Channel and fell down to 100% bottom of that channel.

Golden Ratio Top Detector also showed the potential bottom correctly.
Future? As long as it coasts above SMA350/6h, I will consider it a bullish opportunity and keep collecting.
Also note that is about to jump to an upper Fibonacci channel(78.60%) from 100% channel-- very bullish if this happens
