It doesn't matter how you make your money.I'm responding to a few on how to survive and make some gains in wild markets (note the brutal disclaimer at the end).
The DJI has been pretty wild so, I use it as an example. Figures shown here are not my own. I only use the figures to explain why it doesn't matter how you make your profits. HFT's will do similar things, so why can you not?
Well, I show the value of the ATR on the 3 min time frame as a way of making an exploit. I have to say that this is mainly for day traders with a lot of 'bottle'. So in the most recent scenario, I show how 403 points could have been made shorting. I other scenarios there are slight gains and some losses. No trading strategy could ever guarantee 100% gains.
I show a technique for deciding on an entry point (long or short).
Exit points can be managed based on the RSI or trailing down and allowing price movement to stop you out.
Is this about luck? I don't think so. Luck is about rolling dice. This is a calculated logical strategy - so your not throwing money randomly in the market. The use of the ATR, RSI and retracement criteria at the start of the trend change means no die are being rolled here. This methodology is about readiness and positioning.

No predictions and no guarantees are supplied or implied. The author trades mostly trend following set ups which have a low win rate of approximately 40%. Heavy losses can be expected if trading live accounts. Any previous advantageous performance shown in other scenarios, is not indicative of future performance. Exploit
PURE ADDICTION! To be exploited. Yep - the algos play out the addicitons of their masters to cheap money: low interest rates, REPO pumping, and the implicit guarantee from the FED. But an itty bitty virus that disrespects world leaders, has everybody flummoxed and reaching for safe havens.
In this screencast I show a bit of algo action and some smaller time frame trends which can last for over a day - quite lucrative. I've adapted to the vacillations of the market as I can't see the sense in waiting ages for decent profits when there is loads of lovely volatility within trend envelopes to exploit in lower time frames. If I can exploit a move of 100 - 200 points in a day or two I think that's fair enough.
The greed and hope in these markets have created lovely opportunities - which can be exploited with the right level of discipline.
Free money - but not easy money! This educational post shows how exploiting trends can deliver profits in the long term, by living for the big trends. This is a no-targets system that uses the ATR. Trend switches define entry positions and the markets decide exit positions. Scaling-in of position sizes is an advanced higher risk technique. Those lacking experience and with small account sizes should stay far from it.
Trading is not easy. If it was then everybody would be doing it and making millions. About 80 to 90% of all traders consistently lose money. Shocking but true.
Even in showing a purely mathematical system, there are unseen limitations in the backdrop. What's that? The key defining limitation is 'YOU' and your individual psychology. Risk - or the sense of risk - how 'you' manage that, is mostly about psychology.
Even when mathematical reality becomes unarguable, there is still the psychological issue about 'being convinced'. Not everybody is convinced by what is exquisitely mathematical.
Please note that I've only used a 60 min time frame on one chart for illustrative purposes. This is not a tutorial. The skill involved in anticipating where trend switches are more likely to occur is not something I can teach or intend to teach (even for a fee). I do not accept fees and never make any offers of deals to anybody - that's my 'mathematical constant'.
