Turkey bans stock short-selling among steps after mayor's jailing

Turkey's capital markets board on Sunday banned short selling on the Istanbul bourse, and also eased share buyback limitations and equity ratio requirements until April 25, amid market turmoil after Istanbul's mayor was detained and jailed.
It also decided to ease the equity ratio requirement for credit capital market transactions, and removed the maximum limit for the total amount to be used for share buybacks on listed companies.
The board said it took these decisions in order to ensure reliable, transparent and stable operation of capital markets and protect investors.
