Mati Greenspan: "SEC lawsuit against LBRY threatens all cryptocurrencies"
The founder of Quantum Economics, Mati Greenspan, warns of the consequences of the SEC lawsuit against LBRY, a decentralized YouTube-like content platform, in a newsletter published today entitled "Don't let them kill crypto". Greenspan claims that if the SEC's lawsuit against LBRY is successful, it would have dramatic consequences for the future of all cryptocurrencies. "Should the court rule against LBRY, it would literally call into question the future of all cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Ether." Greenspan also notes that the US has fallen far behind in regulating cryptocurrencies and warns that this case could set a precedent for classifying "multi-programmable money" as a security. "Judges tend to base their decisions on previous rulings on similar cases, so a negative ruling could make it easier for judges to end any project that uses crypto tokens: DeFi, NFTs, smart contracts, and pretty much anything except possibly stablecoins. " Like Ripple with XRP, LBRY is accused of having sold digital assets in the form of its "LBRY Credits" to numerous investors between July 2016 and February 2020, including investors based in the USA, without authorization.
