Dollar was de-correlated from Gold in an event know as the "Nixon shock", basically creating value from nothing, after all the alchemists dreamed about turning metals to gold, and there dream came up in a different form.
Creating value from nothing resulted in all the world contributing to enriching the US and keeping them rich. The chart show an astonishing acceleration in growth of the stock market, or in other terms the acceleration of wealth inequality. This cycle produces as well side effects like consuming planet's resources in unsustainable manner leading to green gas emissions, hunger and famine although humanity has never been more technologically advanced. In essence It's a problem of bad distribution of resources, some can access value created from nothing and the others pay for it.
