Trading ADA with crypto total volume - +2061% returns in a yearUsing the total crypto market cap as a trading indicator is an overlooked method. Traders get stuck on chasing complex new indicators when all they need is in front of their eyes. If you could be buying when the total crypto market volume rises and sell when it goes down it might be all you need. This strategy proves that you can comfortably beat ADA's holding at 1480.1% with +2061.1% in a year. And it's very easy to run and automate. WILL POST ALL POSITIONS, OPEN/CLOSE PRICES/TIMES BELOW The strategy goals: 1. Use Crypto Total Volume as the main indicator 2. Beat holding ADA over the past year 3. No additional indicators only price movements The strategy: The strategy that was the most successful consists of only 3 lines. Simplicity works as it reflects what is actually happening in the market. In our case this is the full strategy: On the 1 hour time-frame: 1. We will open a position when Crypto Total Volume is up by 4% in last day 2. We will close the position when Crypto Total Volume is down by 4% in last day and Price is up by 3% in last 3 days No stop loss or take profit we respect the strategy rules 100% of the time. The results: The strategy beat holding ADA convincingly by bringing in +2061.1% through the year. It did so by winning 64.1% of all trades with a an average of 11% per win to -5.76% when losing. You can expect to hold a position for an average of 3.5 days. A strong aspect of the strategy is that it has above 5 positions per month, a total of 64 for the year. This exposes you to less fees than high-frequency ones. Note that despite the fact that the strategy is executed on the 1h timeframe Crypto Total Volume is calculated daily so positions will be opened at midnight UTC, while the close is monitored on the hourly. Further optimisations: The winning positions were held on average for shorter than a losing ones, so seeing how you can shorten holding time for losing positions may improve results. The volume based approach that beats holding ETH with +940% Beating Ethereum's stellar +815% gains over a year is no easy feat. Add limiting drawdown to the task and it becomes even more complicated - especially vs USDT. However with longer term strategies like this it really becomes apparent how you should simply think about the best time to buy and sell, and try to express it though market metrics, rather than trying to plague your strategy with complexity. It's really startling this simple strategy returned 940% in one year on spot! WILL POST EVERY POSITION BELOW (including open/close time/SL level + how every position was closed) The strategy goals: - Beat holding Ethereum - so more than 815% profit - Simple to execute and stay disciplined on - Max drawdown of 30% - we don't want to be dipping as far as the market is The strategy: This strategy tries to strike a balance between catching solid dips and riding reversals based on volume. Volume precedes price. It does not have to be some extremely sophisticated trading system, especially when trading a trending asset as Ethereum. If market participants start buying rapidly, Ethereum will spike. If they start selling it will go down. The key is to use metrics that help you pin this, simple as that. So in our case on the 1 hour chart: 1. We will open a position when Crypto Total Volume is up by 4% in last day AND Price is below SMA(5) 2. We will close the position when Crypto Total Volume is down by 4% in last day AND Price is up by 3% in last 3 days We will set a stop loss at 20% of market price, no take profit. All the rules are followed 100% of the time. The result: This strategy accumulated +940% over a year on spot. So If you started with 10,000 USDT you'd be sitting on 94,000 USDT without touching leverage. It's also so simple to execute that you can set all these rules as alerts and just act when you need to or automate it. Profit while BTC is -40%? This is the strategy: +44% on spotPlenty of traders are struggling to trade the choppy ranging market of the past couple of months. Especially as it comes after an "up only!!!" period where making a mistake was an exception and (at least some) success the rule. Wicks and stops hunting are not making it easier. We always speak about preparing the strategy for the next leg, but traders still don't use data and help. This is an example of how you do it and create a strategy where when Bitcoin is -40% down, you're comfortably +44% in profit. WILL POST EVERY POSITION OPEN/CLOSE TIME AND RETURN OVER 6 MONTHS BELOW The strategy goals: Any strategy you're running needs to be profitable in different market conditions. It's fine if it particularly successful under particular ones, but it should not be a dud in the long run. So we're going to pose quite a challenge for ourselves: 1. Winning strategy on spot in the past 3 months (March to June) while Bitcoin is down 40% 2. Beat buy and hold over 6 months - we need to have a sufficient sample of trades. The majority of gains on Bitcoin happened before the start of the year so we are looking at Dec-Jun 3. Make more than 100% during a year. Obviously this will be a range based strategy so trading it in a parabolic bull market is not the wisest. However we need to see longer term success to validate the idea. The strategy: We'll be using one on of the simplest indicators in range trading - Bollinger Bands. We do need to make the classic set up more responsive by reducing the periods and standard deviation. On account of this we will include ATR (Average True Range) which is a great measure of volatility. If it's not present we don't want to be exposed. You want the opposite in parabolic markets. On the 1 hour chart we: - Will open a position when price is crossing up BB_LOWER (period: 15, standard deviation: 1) AND ATR (14) is up by 9% in last day - Will close a position when price is crossing down BB_UPPER (period: 15, standard deviation: 1) AND ATR(14) is down by 1% in last hour No stop loss or take profit - the strategy rules are respected 100% of the time. The reduced period and standard deviation on the Bollinger Bands match what you see on the chart here. The results: The marriage between Bollinger Bands and ATR is working quite well in ranging markets. Bollinger Bands signal low/high prices while ATR gives you a hint of volatility. It wins about 56% of positions, but the profits are on average 2:1 to the loss which is ideal. In fact this strategy: 1. Convincingly beat the -40% market in the past 3 months, with profits of +44% 2. Made 86% in the past 6 months, while just holding Bitcoin would have brought you 39.9% 3. Profited +136.5% over the year. Again we do recommend adjusting your strategy to the conditions, but this gives us a large enough sample of trades to validate the idea. Even max drawdown over the last 3 months was only 9%. That and profits is a wonderful position to be in in a market that's ruled by fear. A BTC divergence strategy that profits at +413.91% on spotTraders like trading divergencies. They are easy to spot, can work on multiple time-frames, and as so many are watching them and acting on them they may become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Where traders tend to fail is being consistent. They never really write the rules by which their strategy is bound. This leads to random trading behaviour that cannot be analysed or improved. Not a way you want to be treating you trading funds. Here we will demonstrate how to design a profitable crypto strategy that you can follow to the T. It brought in +413.91% in the last year on spot. WILL POST EVERY POSITION BELOW The strategy goals: - Use specific quantifiable divergencies - Use a momentum indicator - Beat holding Bitcoin The strategy: There are a few indicators you can use to craft these strategies like MACD, OBV or Stochastic. In this case we are going with RSI as one of the classic examples. Here are our strategy rules on the 15 min time-frame: - Open position when: BTC/USDT is down by 1% in past day AND RSI (14) is up by 1% in past day AND Price is below EMA(25) - Close position when: BTC/USDT is down by 1% in past day AND RSI (14) is down by 1% in past day AND Price is up by 5% in last 2 days No stop loss or take profit but these rules re followed 100% of the time. The results: The strategy beat holding Bitcoin in the past year with +413.91% compared to 305.16%. The strategy is efficient as it managed to pull it off with only 30 positions. They are held for 12 days on average when winning, and 4 days when losing making this a swing trading strategy despite the lower time-frame. We won 22 positions with an average position of +9.12% vs losing 8 with an average of -7.87%. It would be good to follow this strategy as the larger the sample of positions becomes the better we can evaluate it. Is simple to execute and automate Not all candlestick patterns are created equal, and they do not work on all markets. However they do work in crypto, at least based on experience as they are not tough to identify and speculators tend to react to them. This is why we focused on candles that are not that difficult to identify and are very clear in meaning. The strategy (FULL INSTRUCTIONS): On the 30 min timeframe: We are going to open a position when the candle is a bullish Engulfing We are going to close the position when the candle is bearish Marubozu No stop loss or take profit, these are the only rules we follow, but we follow them a 100% of the time. The results: The strategy brought in 249.17%, beating holding. If you started trading this a year ago with 1 Bitcoin, you would be 2.4917 BTC in profit at the moment. What's even better the max drawdown throughout the year was 22.7% and it was actually in February. During May we were only 11% down at a certain point. This provides a Sortino Ratio of 5.44 which is a stellar mark for these volatile markets.
