AUD/JPY looks on the verge of a breakoutAnother strong employment report for Australia helped the Aussie dollar gain traction on Thursday. And with Wall Street stocks remaining supported amid a weak-yen environment, AUD/JPY could be nearing a bullish breakout.
AUD/JPY found support at the 200-day SMA on Wednesday and formed a bullish engulfing candle on Thursday. The 2-year AU-JP yield differential also appears set for another leg higher, which could help AUD/JPY break out of a potential bull flag.
The 102 handle sits near the monthly R1 pivot, making it an interim target. A break above which brings the June low and 103 handle into focus.
- Bulls could seek dips to the 100 handle and target the 102 and 103 handles
- A downside risk for this pair is if we enter a period of risk off
- A break beneath Wednesday's low invalidates the bullish bias

Bullish Butterfly EURUSD DailyLooks like EURUSD is forming a Bullish Butterfly pattern as the Dollar strengthens across most pairs. I'm looking for the pair to continue decline into support around 1.0575-1.0675, consolidate and possibly dead cat bounce before proceeding towards the 1.05 range. I'm also looking for the 14-period RSI to enter oversold territory during this time, which I project may go through the end of November.
I'm currently already short, having racked up ~300 pips. My current stop loss is about 150 pips trailing.

AUD/USD bears eye 200-day SMABears are retaining control on AUD/USD after they used the 50-day EMA as a nice entry for fresh shorts. Yet support was found around a historical weekly VPOC (volume point of control), so perhaps a minor bounce could be due. Bears could seek to fade into any such bounce around resistance level such as the swing lows around 67c, in anticipation of a move down to the 2000-day SMA near the September low.

Traders could veer towards the yen with risk events loomingIt is no coincidence that VIX futures have been creeping higher in recent weeks despite Wall Street hitting record highs, as traders are presumably hedging downside risk as we approach the US election. And that means it may not take much to spook traders out of bullish bets with markets at frothy levels, and that could see the yen strengthen as a safety play. Matt Simpson takes a technical look at yen pairs of interest.

EUR/USD buyers could be lurking around the 200-day SMAThe euro has already seen a decent selloff heading into Thursday's ECB meeting, where expectations for them to cut by 25bp are high. And that runs the risk that that the cut is already priced in, and could leave the euro susceptible to a bounce if a dovish tone (hint of further cuts) are not also delivered.
Prices are trying to hold around the 1.09, near the 200-day EMA and monthly S2 pivot point. We have inflation data from Europe up shortly, and if that comes in soft then perhaps we'll see another low. But given the size of the selloff already seen, I suspect buyers could be lurking around the 200-day SMA and a countertrend bounce to 1.0950 at a minimum could be due.
