Americans have largely been able to weather higher prices, but a long bout of inflation has raised concerns that shoppers could become more constrained and a recovery in spending will be slower than previously expected. Walmart ( NYSE:WMT ) reported total U.S. comparable sales up 3.9%, excluding fuel, for its first quarter ended April 30. Adjusted earnings per share came in at 60 cents, easily beating the 52-cent average forecast. Total revenue of $161.51 billion also topped estimates. The retail bellwether now expects annual consolidated net sales to rise at the high end or slightly above its prior forecast of 3% to 4% growth. It also expects adjusted profit per share to be at the high end or slightly above its prior estimate of $2.23 and $2.37.

5/15/24 - $wmt - i'd stay away from this, trends/consumer tough5/15/24 - vrockstar - NYSE:WMT - 24x fwd PE and barely 3.5% yield for this anemic grower into the most cashed strapped consumers. google trends look awful. trends.google.com i'd guess any pop gets faded v quickly. pricing power is for the brands, not the retailers. hard to sell a cost cutting/ brand squeeze story for a company that's already doing this to the extreme. i'd love to short it but tbh, shorting is such a fool's errand in this tape. so i'd just caution anyone buying the print that the upside is probably very limited and you're probably facing a much higher liklihood of decline here on a miss. i'd stay away from this.

Starting at the basics, the trend in this market cannot really be questioned at this point, and following the latest correction from all-time highs of $61.66 set in March, this could be a market that dip-buyers are drawn to over the coming weeks. Adding to the current uptrend’s strength, price has also rebounded from the Ichimoku Cloud (consisting of the Leading Span A and the Leading Span B) and is above both the conversion line and the base line. You can also see that the conversion line is on the brink of crossing back above the slower-moving base line. Given that price has recently rebounded from the Ichimoku Cloud and the stock is entrenched in a considerable uptrend, a noticeable crossover here would likely prompt buyers to enter the market to challenge the all-time high. The double-bottom pattern (shown by the green arrows at $58.63) adds weight to a bullish showing here. It was also recently completed by trading beyond the pattern’s neckline at $60.53. If price follows through higher after this breakout, the pattern’s upside target will be $62.59. Price Direction? With everything considered, this remains a bullish market and the break of the double-bottom pattern’s neckline emphasises the potential strength of buyers from the Ichimoku Cloud.

WALMART Forming a peak pattern. Correction possible.Walmart is technically bullish on the 1D outlook (RSI = 66.294, MACD = 1.320, ADX = 41.735) but has reached the top of the 18 month Channel Up. With the 1D RSI Double Topped inside the overbought zone, the current price is increasingly unstable and the rally since the December 11th 2023 HL unsustainable withouth a correction. The three main pullbacks inside the Channel Up have been within the -10.20% and -11.92% region. A new -10% correction would test the 0.236 Channel Fib and come close to the 1D MA200. Looking at WMT before the splitWMT split 3/1 today. Looking back over the years, the WMT stock almost looks like a crypto that never crashed. Its gone up consistently over the years. WMT can be traded technically of course. But one of my friends who is a successful options trader likes WMT for its fundamentals. And I think that shows in this chart over the decades of Walmart's history. Some people hate Walmart for some of their business practices, but people continue to choose to work there, and people continue to choose to shop there. That says a lot. Chart patterns are fun to trade if technical analysis is your focus, but if you're looking long term at all, fundamental analysis is not to be ignored. With the split, there are some benefits to us traders. At a cheaper price, more of us can trade more. That means more volume and liquidity in the market. If you sell options, you might be able to afford WMT options now if you couldn't before. I'm not sure how the split will affect price...there is an active bearish pattern. But in the long term, no doubt WMT will continue to grow its business and maintain its decades-long trajectory. Happy trading out there!

Chief Executive Officer Jamie Dimon and his family sold $150 million worth of the bank’s stock last week in the first sale since he took the helm 18 years ago. Jeff Bezos also recently sold 50 million Amazon.com Inc. shares in multiple transactions as part of a plan he disclosed earlier this month.
