NUGT is a 2x leveraged bet on the NYSE Arca Gold Miners Indexa market-cap-weighted index of large gold and silver mining firms. Like most leveraged and inverse products, it's designed to provide a 1-day bet on the index. As such, NUGT is designed to be held for no more than one trading day. For longer periods, the effects of compounding may cause it to drift (sometimes greatly) from the 200% exposure it promises to provide to the NYSE Arca Gold Miners Index. Since NUGT is designed for daily use, the trading costs are of greater importance. Prior to March 31, 2020, the fund provided 3x daily exposure to the same index.
