Panama's lack of mineral resources such as crude oil results in a trade deficit on a consistent basis. The country's main export is ores slag and ash 77 percent of total shipments. Panama's main imports are: mineral fuels, oils, distillation products (17 percent of total imports), machinery, nuclear reactors, boilers (9 percent) vehicles other than railway, tramway (7 percent) and electronics (7 percent). Panama's major trade partners are: China (33 percent of total exports and 15 percent of total imports), the United States (33 percent of total imports), . Others include: Japan, South Korea, Spain, Mexico and Costa Rica.
