Its history dates back more than 160 years. It has operating divisions in Anniston, Birmingham, Gadsden, Montgomery, Opelika, Selma, and Tuscaloosa. Alagasco is one of the two operating units of Energen Corporation, a diversified energy company also headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama.
