SMSI trade ideas

SMSI WedgieI've been expecting the market to tank so I haven't been paying attention to this stock, no interest in going long on stocks when the market tanks. Anyways, looks like SMSI formed a wedgie, downward target is around $4.9. I am not shorting this, looking for a buy point again. Looks like anything below $5 is a buy, I expect it to hold gap support. I could be wrong, and it could cycle back to the top of the wedgie to hit my original target of $7, and I'm also bullish on this stock so definitely not shorting it. At the same time, there's no point in going long while the market tanks. Note that there's MFI divergence and A/D is trending down as well.

SMSI updateSo I've been adding on this bear flag, and we finally got that pop.... I'm bullish on this stock, but it seems to cycle between overbought and oversold on the intraday (15 min to be specific), so I unloaded (at $5.95) all of the shares I added to lock in some profits, I'm back to 3k shares. Will add again if MFI goes oversold on 15 min chart. I drew some arrows, but I'm really looking at the MFI indicator at this point. Maintaining 3k shares because it's still unpredictable at best, it may still shoot up to $7, but that double top at $6.6 looks like a tempting place to unload some more shares. H&S, double top, new 52 wk high, take your pick. It's all a guessing game with this stock, just buy the dips (MFI oversold) and you'll be fine...

SMSI Three Drives alternate scenarioI like to post both bullish and bearish scenarios because either are always a possibility. The bearish scenario in this case is that the initial gap was one of the three drives in which case this is headed down. My add point is $5.15 based on this chart, I plan to sell some if it goes over $7. In any case, the fundamentals support $8.5 at 50 trailing P/E, but it's almost doubled in less than a week, so there's bound to be some selling. Still buying the dips on this one.

SMSI still coilingStill trying to figure out my buy/sell points on this one, but everything seems to be pointing to a rally to $7+ or a test of gap support. Really disappointed with the late day selloff, though we were gonna get another late day push, oh well. For all I know, it may just hang out in this $5.5 - $6 zone for a while. This stock has exhibited rangebound trading in between earning reports in the past. We're looking at a trailing P/E of 34 here, but if they continue with their current pace, we're looking at less than 15 forward P/E. So I would expect a huge rally if they meet or beat on their next earnings.

SMSI Coiling AgainNeither 3 drives pattern played out today, like I said, not really my favorite TA pattern anyways. Don't really believe in it but the pattern was lining up. It could be that the market tank affected the pattern, who knows. It does appear to be coiling again, and while it shows positive divergence, I'm expecting the market to gap down tomorrow so it could break downwards pretty easily. Based on charts, I'm revising my add point back to $5, 4.75, and $4.5. Expecting market weakness for another week, so I'm not in a big rush to add. No longer overbought on intraday charts, still overbought on daily though and it appears to be doing a slow decay, which is typical for a stock that made a huge move. Might add if it stays flat through next week.

SMSI Three Drives?Not my favorite TA theory but it seems to fit the bill. I actually copied the green and red arrows so each one is identical in length and slope. Of course there is always the possibility that this will just go full pumptard instead of pulling back. I am going to consider selling some if it follows the pattern. Will buy back if/when it drops. Quit frankly I have 6k shares and I've been watching this thing go up and down $2 - 4k each day. Taking some profit might alleviate the heartburn. BTW, oversold on 15 min chart, jumped up the last time it did that.

SMSI Long Term ViewI figured it was heading to $5.25 - $5.30 today (mentioned it earlier) and there's a possibility it could head down to $4.7 later this week. I'm staying long because it's hard to project where this will bounce, even though it's terribly overbought right now on technical indicators and volume is dropping off. The way I see it, if I was relying strictly on charts, I would have sold at $4.8 last Friday anyways. Excerpt from the conference call: "Based on recent SafePath run rates, we expect the third quarter SafePath revenue to grow approximately 30% sequentially." If the CFO is right and they get 30% revenue growth on SafePath, you can expect this to go parabolic next earnings. Pick your entry point, I guess.... I'm already 2/3 in with another add if it hits $4.7 again. Also expecting some analysts to pump it sooner than later because that's what they do. With the stock price above $5 now, there are going to be funds buying in.

The Bullish Case For SMSI SafePath subscribers continues to ramp and is accelerating Company returned to growth, profitability, and positive cash flow in 2018 Significantly strengthen balance sheet - paid down dept obligations Closed smart retail product acquisition (ViewSpot) - brings new growing profitable revenue stream - and customer diversification Very Strong start to 2019 revenues, revenues increased to $8.4 million, sales pipeline continues to grow across all three of their core wireless solutions The company basks in 35% organic revenue growth and nearly 90% gross margins, even without expected catalysts. The sunsetting of Sprint's legacy app will come some day, but SafePath's growth is explosive even without that, and even without getting another carrier on board. SafePath is morphing into a sophisticated IoT/Smart Home platform with a host of features, the market for this could be huge. SMSI's Product Lineup/Outlook SafePath The growth is all the more encouraging because most of it comes from a whopping 75% growth in SafePath from Sprint (the company sells white label apps to carriers and it's called Safe and Sound for Sprint customers). This isn't such a surprise as SafePath really is a capable app, or better, platform, with a host of capabilities like (Q1CC): "parental controls that enable parents to set app restrictions such as for YouTube and Facebook including age level restrictions for each device. Monitor video game usage, pause the Internet and set homework and bedtimes, apply content filtering with Safe Search. It should be noted that these parental controls remain active even when the child's device is outside of the home." These capabilities are expanding, and with it its TAM, most notably with SafePath Home and SafePath IoT, which provide platforms for smart home devices and asset tracking (Q1CC): "Named SafePath home and branded to the mobile operator, SafePath automatically secures connected devices through a router and provides remote monitoring control with one easy-to-use app. So from smartphones to non cellular devices such as gaming systems, SafePath enables families to manage all their connected devices wherever they are and wherever their devices go... We quoted at some length as it is pretty impressive and one has to keep in mind that the company doesn't sell to the public, but to carriers so it is incurring minimal sales and marketing cost and it can up-sell SafePath Home to regular SafePath users. So SafePath is growing into a sophisticated platform with a host of solutions and if it can gain additional carriers as customers' growth could be really explosive. ViewSpot Their new product from the recent acquisition is ViewSpot which is an in-store marketing tool with a host of functionality (for features, see here). It has two Tier-1 carriers as customer and growth prospects seem to be solid (Q1CC): "On the sales front, the ViewSpot pipeline continues to grow rapidly. We have several proof-of-concept trials underway in the field with a variety of carriers around the world. We believe that the ViewSpot sales cycle is shorter than our other wireless products." Revenue in Q1 was $1.1M from ViewSpot and management is broadening the functionality of the platform, like dynamic digital pricing, giving customers the ability to update pricing remotely in an instant and in select regions or locations. CommSuite Their voice messaging platform, which is still their biggest earner enjoyed its sixth quarter of subscriber base revenue growth but advertisement revenue was down in Q1, taking revenues down a bit sequentially. But this doesn't seem beyond repair (Q1CC): "our customer Sprint also wants to see more revenue, so they will be active in trying to build the ad revenue back up. As you may recall, the fall-off is because Brent they've invested pin site media which was a part of Sprint that was responsible for booking ads. The Bullish Case For SMSI SafePath subscribers continues to ramp and is accelerating Company returned to growth, profitability, and positive cash flow in 2018 Significantly strengthen balance sheet - paid down dept obligations Closed smart retail product acquisition (ViewSpot) - brings new growing profitable revenue stream - and customer diversification Very Strong start to 2019 revenues, revenues increased to $8.4 million, sales pipeline continues to grow across all three of their core wireless solutions The company basks in 35% organic revenue growth and nearly 90% gross margins, even without expected catalysts. The sunsetting of Sprint's legacy app will come some day, but SafePath's growth is explosive even without that, and even without getting another carrier on board. SafePath is morphing into a sophisticated IoT/Smart Home platform with a host of features, the market for this could be huge. SMSI's Product Lineup/Outlook SafePath The growth is all the more encouraging because most of it comes from a whopping 75% growth in SafePath from Sprint (the company sells white label apps to carriers and it's called Safe and Sound for Sprint customers). Revenue was nearly 7x that of Q1 2018, and increased 75% over Q4. These are remarkable numbers as: Sprint still hasn't retired its legacy app. Smith Micro still hasn't achieved to get a new carrier as a customer. Those were supposed to be the two big catalysts for SafePath but we guess that if it can grow this strong without those catalysts, the company should really do very well. This isn't such a surprise as SafePath really is a capable app, or better, platform, with a host of capabilities like (Q1CC): "parental controls that enable parents to set app restrictions such as for YouTube and Facebook including age level restrictions for each device. Monitor video game usage, pause the Internet and set homework and bedtimes, apply content filtering with Safe Search. It should be noted that these parental controls remain active even when the child's device is outside of the home." These capabilities are expanding, and with it its TAM, most notably with SafePath Home and SafePath IoT, which provide platforms for smart home devices and asset tracking (Q1CC): "Named SafePath home and branded to the mobile operator, SafePath automatically secures connected devices through a router and provides remote monitoring control with one easy-to-use app. So from smartphones to non cellular devices such as gaming systems, SafePath enables families to manage all their connected devices wherever they are and wherever their devices go... Additional features included in SafePath home are network protection that provides your Wi-Fi network with an artificial intelligence engine that is consistently adapting to new threats such as phishing attacks or computer viruses. We quoted at some length as it is pretty impressive and one has to keep in mind that the company doesn't sell to the public, but to carriers so it is incurring minimal sales and marketing cost and it can up-sell SafePath Home to regular SafePath users. So SafePath is growing into a sophisticated platform with a host of solutions and if it can gain additional carriers as customers' growth could be really explosive. ViewSpot Their new product from the recent acquisition is ViewSpot which is an in-store marketing tool with a host of functionality (for features, see here). It has two Tier-1 carriers as customer and growth prospects seem to be solid (Q1CC): "On the sales front, the ViewSpot pipeline continues to grow rapidly. We have several proof-of-concept trials underway in the field with a variety of carriers around the world. We believe that the ViewSpot sales cycle is shorter than our other wireless products." Revenue in Q1 was $1.1M from ViewSpot and management is broadening the functionality of the platform, like dynamic digital pricing, giving customers the ability to update pricing remotely in an instant and in select regions or locations. CommSuite Their voice messaging platform, which is still their biggest earner enjoyed its sixth quarter of subscriber base revenue growth but advertisement revenue was down in Q1, taking revenues down a bit sequentially. But this doesn't seem beyond repair (Q1CC): "our customer Sprint also wants to see more revenue, so they will be active in trying to build the ad revenue back up. As you may recall, the fall-off is because Brent they've invested pin site media which was a part of Sprint that was responsible for booking ads. And that divestiture was impacted the ad revenue and nothing else." Even though they guided CommSuite revenue growth flat for the year so the growth has to come from the other two platforms. Unless of course they manage to get a new carrier on board for any one of these platforms, which is what they're aiming at (Q1CC): "we've always said that our goal was to get another carrier on in this first half. And that's where we're at and that's what we're focused on. But, candidly, as we look at things now, we're looking at how we can expand all three of our business propositions and with new carriers across the board. So I think it's a much bigger effort than what you're questioning." Any new carrier and we're off to the races, needless to say. More than one and investors can take the fizzy stuff out of the fridge because the company actually manages very solid growth and can reach profitability even without new carriers. SMITH MICRO SOFTWARE INC - NASDAQ: $SMSI Nears Break-OutAfter recapturing its 200 DMA back in March, SMITH MICRO SOFTWARE INC - NASDAQ:SMSI has found itself trading within a define channel between the $2.80 and $3.40ish levels as we can observe from the Daily chart above. In addition, SMSI also continues to trade above all of its important moving averages 20/50/200 DMA's, which depicts a favorable technical picture. Moving forward, both investors/traders may want to continue to monitor the action closely in SMSI for if the stock is capable of clearing the $3.50 level, such development would likely trigger its next advance into the $3.90 area and if that figure were to be 'taken out', we suspect that the stock has a 5-handle written all over it.
