Pounding on SMIC -981In my opinion, the US government is being myopic if they decide to do the following : 1. to delist the Chinese companies in US - about 250 companies that are worth trillions of dollars (not very likely but this is a RISK) So, as much as possible, buy the Chinese companies listed in HK or China else get an ETF not the American Depositary Receipt (ADR) Do not forget many ETFs globally have investable interest in China and many are listed in US and delisting them would severely impact these fund managers' performance too. 2. US-China relationship - read article here . It is not the interest of US to continue its aggressive stance against China. Think again what is China focusing now ? Not the international trades but it is busy cleaning up its own backyard. It is imposing rules and checklist to ensure its billions of users' data are not exploited nor land in foreign hands. The fate of DIDI tells you all. 3. Chips - It would be in severe shortage as more new products are launched and from smartphones to Electrical vehicles, these essential chips are a critical component. TSMC being the market leader is in the forefront followed closely by Korea and China has made 5G, AI and robotic automation its critical pillars of innovation in the years to come and pouring huge sums of money for R&D and investment is tell tale signs that semiconductor companies with good growth potential will benefits in the years to come.

SMIC's R&D VP Resigns, Giving Up CNY 9.3 Mn in SharesOn July 4, Chinese chipmaking giant SMIC announced that the company's vice president of R&D and its core technician, Dr. Jingang Wu, has recently applied for resignation due to personal reasons. He will no longer hold any position in the company. According to the recent statement of China's largest foundry SMIC (688981:SH, 00981:HK), the company's R&D work remains the same, and Dr. Wu's resignation has not imposed any significant adverse impact on the company's overall R&D strength. Dr. Wu joined SMIC in 2001. Since then, he has successively served as assistant director, director and senior director. From 2014, he has been the vice president of R&D. During his tenure, Dr. Wu has mainly been in charge of the company's fin field-effect transistor (FinFET) advanced technology R&D and management, which is a critical enabler for furthering SMIC's 0.35-micron process technology to the nano-FinFET level. Regarding confidentiality and competition restrictions, SMIC stated that Dr. Wu was required not to disclose any of the company's secrets or proprietary information and shall not work for any competitors within 12 months after his resignation. Also, the 160,000 restricted stocks Dr. Wu has been granted for equity incentives in May, equivalent to the market value of CNY 9.3 million based on the current stock price, would become invalid after his resignation.

SMIC Updated AnalysisDear traders and friends, Welcome to my updated analysis of this TSM's potential rival in the future. This asset successfully bounced up from the buy-back zone I posted last week. Two consecutive trend-reversal candlesticks have appeared, indicating the potential formation of a major low from here. If you watch boxing matches, you would notice that the boxers spend quite a bit of time dancing around their opponent, making them strike first, exhaust their energy , get familiar with their strategies,etc. The real punch comes when there is a real advantage to it else it will land itself into the air, wasting energy and revealing oneself. At least, this is how I see the drama being played here between China and US. US, under the leadership of President Trump is blatantly forcing China out of the market by imposing trade tariffs, forcing Huawei out of the market, amongst many others. China, know its position and does not retaliate by brute force but take a step back and learn and "suffer in silence" and pay the price. When time is ripe, they strike and it is a mighty blow that the opponent is likely to knock out or unable to retaliate as strongly as before. Such is the move China made on HK after decades of letting HK take care of its domestic affairs. The riots have went from bad to worse and it is clear to everyone that under the leadership of Carrie Lam and her team, it is near impossible to contain it. Now that President Trump has made TSMC to stop supplying chips to Huawei, thinking it will cripple the latter's production. Maybe for a short period of time but Huawei under the leadership of Ren is a warrior, a fighter that never gives up easily. It remains to be seen in years to come that China will have its own chips manufacturing facilities , not only to supply domestically but once again , dominate the world scene.
