The fund aims for monthly distributions and capital preservation opportunities by investing in preferred shares offered by Canadian split share corporations listed on a Canadian exchange. Split share corporations typically issue both common and preferred stocks to transform the risk and investment return of dividends and capital gains into streams of revenue for two different groups of investors. By only selecting preferred shares, the fund managers believe that investors may be able to diversify sources of preferred dividend income and potentially add stability to preferred share portfolios. The actively managed fund, which is the first split preferred ETF in Canada, may invest in preferred shares of other issuers, other investment funds and ETFs, equities or income-generating securities, as well as convertibles. The fund may invest in derivative instruments, hedge currency, or lend securities.
